When you’re trying to implement a ketogenic diet, it’s highly important to carefully select the kinds of food you’ll be eating. Why? It’s because a lot of people who try this diet end up failing due to improper meal plans or making mistakes in their food choices.

So, before you aimlessly consume any kinds of food for your diet, it’s very important to know which among them are “keto-friendly”. And if ever you’re considering beer to be a part of your diet, let us first determine if it’s essential for having an effective diet result.

If we’re talking about a regular kind of beer, its nutritional content would be as follows:

  • Water - 327.4g

  • Protein -  1.6g

  • Carbohydrates - 12.6g 

  • Fat - 0.0g

  • Cholesterol - 0.0g

  • Calcium - 14mg

However, if you’re only opting for a light beer, this would be its nutritional content:

  • Calories - 103g

  • Water - 335.8g

  • Protein -  0.9g

  • Carbohydrates - 5.8g 

  • Fat - 0.0g

  • Cholesterol 0.0g

  • Calcium - 14mg

  • Magnesium - 21mg

As you can observe, beers normally have a high calorie content. So, if you’re on a keto diet and you really want to drink beer, then choose the one that has a lesser calorie content for that’s what is greatly recommended for keto dieters

What Are Some Benefits of Beer?


Though a lot of people say that drinking beer is bad for your health, it surprisingly has numerous great benefits. 

You might not have known but drinking beer highly improves our bone health and other connective tissues.

That’s why they say that beer drinkers are less likely to have osteoporosis or other bone problems.

So, if you have a bone problem, an adequate amount is good for you.

In addition to that, research also states that adequate consumption of beer intake can greatly improve cholesterol levels.

However, if you would be drinking heavily, this benefit would be eliminated. Another one would be that it reduces the risks of Type 2 diabetes by 30%.

The reason for that, unfortunately, is yet to be determined since it's still being studied.  

Is Beer Keto-Friendly?

Now, given all that information, can we say that beer is keto-friendly?

The answer would be, yes, however, there’s a limit to how much you can drink and what type of beer you’re allowed to drink.

We all know that in the keto diet, high-carb intake is not permitted and beers usually have a high carb content.

But, there are those that are well-recommended for keto dieters, you just have to determine what those are. 

If you really can’t give up beers, you can opt to try Miller Lite, Budweiser Select 55, Michelob Ultra, Coors Light, Heineken Light and Corona Light. 

They are sure to contain a low amount of carb and is keto-friendly. Instead of the ordinary beers or other brands, opt for these types of beers. 

However, always remember that only drink at a moderate pace because heavy drinking would slow down your ketosis.

Drinking beer is hard to give up, but if you’re on a keto diet and you really need to do so, you can try these alternatives:
