Nutrisystem vs Keto [March 2019] Which Diet is Better?

Nutrisystem vs Keto
Is There A Clear Winner?

Nutrisystem vs Keto

I got involved in a Nutrisystem Keto debate a few weeks ago, and I learned a lot about this healthy eating service (of course I won the debate!).

What I have found a little concerning though is that many comments online refer to Nutrisystem as similar or supportive of keto efforts.

So rather than get tied up in another one of those “which are the best diets” arguments, I want to focus more on how Nutrisystem actually stacks up in a ketogenic context.

It’s certainly one of the better weight loss programs available, and it is specifically designed to help people deal with many health issues they’re facing.

But how well does it actually work? And more importantly, what does the service include?

What Is Nutrisystem And How Does It Work?

Nutrisystem is a weight loss program designed to provide not just information on how to eat better and lose more pounds, but it also provides all the prepared meals and snacks to make it easier for you to stick to the diet.

A big focus is on portion control and switching from 3 larger sized meals to 6 smaller ones that are better balanced.

Essentially, you receive a FedEx delivery of all the food you need for several weeks. They arrive frozen (for the most part), and all you need to do is heat them up.

man thinking about Nutrisystem

I have to admit that I was reasonably impressed with the taste and overall quality. However, there are quite a few downsides.

While portion control and reducing saturated fats and high-glycemic carbs is certainly a good thing, this really is something you could create from scratch for probably less than half the price.

Even the cheapest plan is $290 per month, and for that price, you’ll get a pretty good keto meal delivery service.

Here are my main takeaways, before I go into more detail on how it does under my watchful keto eyes.

PROS

  • All your meals and snacks delivered to your door.
  • Access to dieticians for help with your meal planning
  • Plans are tailored to men and women
  • Meal plans are designed to deliver 6 small meals a day

CONS

  • Even the basic plan works out quite expensive for a month
  • To get the maximum food choices, you have to upgrade to the plus plan
  • Many meal options are only available frozen
  • Not enough options for all food allergies

How Does Nutrisystem Compare To Keto?

a plate of food with some drinks

Basically, Nutrisystem is a meal delivery service that helps you eat healthier and lose some pounds of unwanted fat.

It’s all about getting your food intake in order, and if you follow the plan and only eat what’s delivered, then you will see some good results.

However, this isn’t a viable option for the longer term as it will cost you a fortune each month.

You might learn something about what you should be eating, but because the meals are ready to heat and eat, you don’t even learn how to prepare them.

There’s good advice on becoming more active and doing more exercise, but the main focus is eating to become slim. Keto, on the other hand, is an entire lifestyle changing low-carb diet.

Changes to your meals and the recipes you use result in your body switching from glucose to ketone for energy.

You cut out carbs and reduce them to a minimum, and increase healthy fat and watch the pounds fall off.

The way I would summarize it is that Nutrisystem is good for short term goals, but it’s not a viable option to achieve long term changes. If you truly want to keep losing weight, then keto is definitely the better option.

The best tasting Nutrisystem entrees are the fresh-frozen meals. These entrees are only available on the Uniquely Yours plan - which is also the most expensive.

Final Thoughts: Nutrisystem Vs. Keto?

Woman thinking deeply

Although I do think that this is a very good option to help kick start your journey to a better and healthier you, I still believe keto is better than Nutrisystem.

When it comes to weight loss, I have just seen so many drastic success stories with keto that are simply not found in all the Nutrisystem reviews.

If you need to get rid of several pounds of body fat fast, then ketosis is just the most effective way as it directly tackles your stored fat.

By all means, give it a try, but don’t mistake this as an option to support your keto diet efforts.
